What are corporate actions?

A corporate action is an event initiated by a public company that brings or could bring an actual change to stock price and shareholders' positions. Examples of corporate actions include dividends, rights issues, privatizations, and stock splits or consolidations.

1.Process

1.1 Announcement date

Public companies usually issue an announcement after deciding to conduct a corporate action.
For example, 00973 L'OCCITANE announced a dividend on June 1, 2015.

1.2 Ex-date

Shareholders holding the company's shares after market close on the day before the ex-date are eligible for the corporate action.
After the announcement, a specific execution date will be set. However, in the Hong Kong stock market, changes can still occur before the actual execution, such as changing the execution date or even cancelling the action. Therefore, notifications from the App are for reference only. The final announcements are subject to the Exchange and listed companies.

1.3 Payment date

If a corporate action involves distributing shares or cash, it won't happen on the ex-date. The listed company sets the timing of the distribution. However, the corporate action may remain uncertain until the actual distribution occurs. Therefore, notifications from the App are for reference only. The final announcements are subject to the Exchange and listed companies.
